Craig Franklin is a songwriter based out of Austin, Texas.
Craig grew up in Collinsville, Illinois, near St. Louis, Missouri. As the youngest of 10 siblings, he was exposed to many styles of music. He listened to the greats of Motown, blues masters, to the rock-n-roll of the late sixties and throughout the seventies. Influences are far too many to list but some of the more prominent would be; The Guess Who, The Rolling Stones, Rare Earth, Neil Young, and later on, Tom Petty, Rush, UFO and other heavier rockers. Given this background, Craig has a wide range of styles to pull from for his songs.
Craig writes all of his material for CD’s but has enlisted support on arrangements from his musician-cousin, Keith Haas and well-known Italian guitarist/composer, Tolo Marton.
Like many songwriters, Craig does not have a fixed band, as his musical goals are more along the lines of songwriter/recording artist than performer. However, for his first CD, “Confessions of A Frequent Flyer” and his new recordings he has employed some of the top sessions artists in Austin and elsewhere.
Confessions of A Frequent Flyer (2005)
In 2005, Craig decided to record his first professional CD “Confessions of A Frequent Flyer” after a discussion with long-time friend and high school garage band mate, Michael Stipe of R.E.M. Since “Confessions” Craig has recorded another set of songs with Tolo Marton and is working to complete the CD sometime this year.
